In pulpits and programs across America, there is way too much "identifying" of problems with no action to resolve and no mention of solution. I am personally tired of hearing "about" the problem .... I want to share with you the experience my husband & I had doing this marriage retreat boot camp. First of all, when we got there it appeared that we shouldn't have gone. I say that because on a scale of 1-10, We both described ourselves as a 7. The simple fact of the matter is, just the "minor" issues we had been facing in our marriage were controlling our lives. This camp, like I said was not about us as a couple rather our own individual baggage. Trust me...I didn't think I had baggage. Boy, was I wrong. I had to finally do myself a great favor and realize I had allowed things in my past to really sabotage everything in my life. I am finally relaxed....We laughed and cut up the whole way home...which we only did when we were dating. This was the best experience of my life.. WOW>>> I have never wrote a testimonal before in my life.so here goes.. The boot camp has changed my life competely,let me tell you a little about my life so you can understand where I came from and what it did for me.My husband and I have been separated for 2 years and 4 councelers later it got so bad we couldnt even talk on the phone any more and so for the last 3 weeks we have been ____(TRYING) to communicate by e- mail and that was getting nowhere even with my counclor helping us, we just got in this vicious cycle that we couldnt get out of.. I was sure I hated him, but I have been married before and knew the grass was not greener, \"if he would just respect me\" I thought and treat me that way everying would be o.k...So I signed up for boot camp he agreed to go of course I only if I paid, The trip down was almost 5 hours and full of tension and no talking I drove and he sat over in the passanger side and listened to his I-pod even the next moring we said nothing to each other...We could not stand EACH OTHER!!! As we entered the camp I came to realize I was there not to save my marriage but the get me healthy,,, I worked hard and got rid of so much resentment, guilt, unforgiveness, and many more things that was holding me down from living my life the way I deserved to live it.. I learned how to have more compassion and love for my fellowman,(and I thought I was already a loving person) I now look at all my relationships differently, my communication skills are enhanced, my work is better even my kids act better (lol) I know it changed my life it changed my heart. I can honestly say The only reason I went is so that I could say I tryed everything to make this relationship work..I knew that come Monday I was going to call my attorney and file for divorce.. and now I can honestly say I cant wait everyday to experience something new with my husband..We are still separated but now we have the tools to work through our struggles and experiences and are building a solid foundation for our relationship to grow,I feel excitied when I see him walk into the room I have not felt this way in a very long time..The love was there but just couldnt get past baggage... I cannot begin to express what a life-changing experience the Marriage Boot Camp and Life Enrichment Camp was for my husband and me. My husband, James and I both have experienced a lot of trauma in our lives and this experience has not only given us tools that we can use in our marriage but it has helped us heal as individuals. These four days have served our marriage far better than any kind of marriage counseling because we were forced to face issues that can oftentimes be easy to side-step in a one or two-hour counseling session. The friendships we made during these four days will be life-long because we all shared and grew together. I watched the show last night and I found comfort in seeing other couples like "us". It was like seeing us on tv with the same issues & problems....however, the show had solutions. Thats what we don't have....solutions. I will watch it again and tell my friends. My immediate goal will be to tell my husband about it and invite him to watch it with me.
